Juice Shop SF

Getting our greens!  Me & Marlowe.
One of my favorite snacks or pick-me-ups is a cold glass of green juice.  In Barcelona, I asked the waiter at this very healthy restaurant if they also had green juice (after noticing their fresh pressed carrot juice).... his response was "Como kiwi?"  No, not like kiwi. :)  Greens like spinach, kale, cucumber most commonly... I usually try to avoid juices with spinach and kale as they are goitrogens, which is why I often make my own juice.  Juice Shop SF makes some seriously tasty and fresh juices.  I love the chubby bottles and the surf/drink juice mantra.  I usually get Liver Green, since it's made with dandelion root and not spinach and kale, which I sadly love but can't have in large quantities.

Do you like juice?

Do you do green?

Smile It's Sunday - 1500 Followers! - More Added To Our Spring Giveaway!

Smile everyone!  Do you find smiling infectious?

Hi all my Beautyburgers.  I have really missed you guys.  Hugs!!!  The past two weeks have been a big change for my personally, and unfortunately, I haven't been giving this blog as much attention as I want to.  As much as things have been really positive in my life lately, I can't help but feel sad that I was neglecting this blog and you, the readers and fellow bloggers.  So please forgive me!  I am trying hard to find balance in my life, but please know that Beautyburg is extremely important to me.  It's my passion and lifeline!

This week I'm flying back to New York for IMATS, International Make-up Artist Trade Show.  It should be really fun and amazing.  This is the first time IMATS has been in NYC, so I can't wait to see what it's like.  I am excited to meet other bloggers, see amazing makeup artists and of course haul.  If you plan on being there, let me know!  I would love to meet up. :)

I will be bringing you updates while in New York, so follow me on Twitter for the latest updates.  Aside from IMATS, I also plan to hit a lot of other fun beauty related places while in New York.  I have plans to get my nailz did at Rescue Beauty Lounge and check out the new Nars boutique in Soho!

I'm also smiling today because we hit over 1500+ followers this week.  Thank you guys so much for checking in and reading Beautyburg.  As I mentioned before, this blog means so much to me, and it's beyond touching to see it grow!  Thank you!

I don't think they have places like this in NYC!
Marlowe is looking for the Easter bunny.
Just as an extra, I found a few extra polishes to add to our Spring Basket Giveaway.   If you haven't entered yet, click here to do so.  The contest ends April 15th, 2011 at 11:59pm PST

NARS PRO-PRIME - Could Beautyburg's Marlowe Be A Model?

 Marcel Nars for Nars PRO-PRIME

What could be more than a pretty face?  How about a smooshy one?  Nars has come out recently with two new primers: Pore Refining Primer $32 and Multi-Protect Primer SPF 30 $32.  These add to the arsenal of three other face primers in the Nars collection, as well as Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (my current favorite shadow primer).  I am interested in trying the Pore Refining version, but what I'm more interested in is the possibility of Marlowe being the next face of beauty.  Do you think he has what it takes to become a supermodel?  He does like to indulge in froyo, but he keeps his model form by snacking on broccoli stems.  What do you think?  Should I send his headshot to Francois?!  (I'm completely joking by the way, except the sentence about the food.. all true there.)

Could Marlowe be the next Nars supermodel?
 Classic profile.
 Model's diet: broccoli stems.
But sometimes he likes to treat himself to froyo.

This is a French (bulldog) leprechaun.

Happy Sunday everyone!  This week I tried adding more content for you beauty lovers, and the response has been great.  Thank you for checking in and reading!  I will try my hardest to keep it up and bring you guys informative, fun and honest reviews, tutorials, features, editorials, humor and of course MARLOWE!  This was a big week for Mr. M.  He won a pet costume contest and went to a St. Patty's day party.

Here are some posts from this past week you may have missed:

RBL's Scrangie is so beautiful.
I wrote a guest post for the fun and fabulous Karen at MakeupandBeautyBlog.com giving an overview on one of my favorite indie nail lines, Rescue Beauty Lounge.  Read it here.
The name of this product is so long... I almost couldn't compose a Tweet.
But the smell can be describe in one: "NOM."   Check the review.
It must have been love, but it's over now - Roxette.
See my tutorial on facepainting shamrocks (or just about anything else) with homemade stencils.  If you have kids, you have to try this!
It takes two to tango.  But it only takes Benefit's Bella Bamba to have perfectly pink flushed cheeks.
Wet n' Wild Mega Last Lip Color made a giant impression one me for a mini price!
I dusted off MAC Peppermint Patti and wondered what I was saving this for?  And I want a Shamrock Shake now.
Thanks everyone!

What have you got going on today?  What are you up to next week?!

Happy St. Patrick's Day From Beautyburg! What Are Your St. Patty's Traditions?

Marlowe is wishing you a Happy, Healthy and Safe St. Patrick's Day!

Top o' the morning to you beauty lovers!  We are celebrating St. Patrick's Day at Beautyburg today with everything GREEN!

Since we have so many beauties from around the world and in the US, I wanted to know how you and your family and friends celebrated St. Patrick's Day?

I used to live in a town called Hoboken, NJ which has its very own version of St. Patrick's Day.  Hoboken is right across the water from NYC, and many people who live there work in the city since Hoboken in conveniently situated between the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels and has a few forms of public transportation directly into New York.   Well, with its proximity to NYC, it makes finding bagpipe players difficult for Hoboken's St. Patrick's Day parade.  So what do they do?  They have it two weeks earlier!

The first year I had lived there, no one informed me of this tradition.  I had stumbled upon it while taking a stroll on the main drag.  The town, which already boasts the most bars per square mile (which is exactly how big it is) in the US and was rated #1 singles town by Money Magazine, actually turns kinda ugly during Hoboken St. Patrick's Day.  It basically turns into a town wide frat party with queues for bars forming at 6am!  By noon, the streets are filled with intoxication, and by 3pm, many people are going home with $1,000 tickets for open container violations.  However, among this chaos is a really fun parade and usually it was a day we spent with friends and their children watching the parade.

One of many cars from the parade.
 Parade onlookers.

Where's my pot of gold?  Now we're trying to figure out what to do in CA!
This year I made cupcakes for a work party and Marlowe's human friends at daycare.

Does your country celebrate St. Patrick's Day?  What do you do on St. Patty's?  Do you have any favorite foods from this holiday?

Marlowe - Beautyburg's Bathing Beauty!!

Have you met Marlowe yet?  He's Beautyburg's mascot, collaborator and muse.  This past weekend he added bathing suit model to his resume at a local pet event.  Marlowe won for his old time-y bathing beauty outfit complete with sunglasses.  He attributes his beauty regime to a raw BARF diet (read about BARF diets for pets here), cold compressed coconut oil as conditioner and lots of exercise from hiking with mom.

I hope this brightens your Monday just a little!  Have a great week everyone!

Shades up!
Marlowe wasn't confident at first to go out in public in his bathing suit. lol!
Sunglasses complete the look.  These are called Doggles!

Sunday Funday! Link to My Guest Post!

Do you find the taste of snow as yummy as Marlowe?

Happy Sunday everyone!  Week is winding down, and we're getting ready to start a new one.  Today is a big day in America.   Probably a holiday that some people look forward to more than any other all year, and that's Super Bowl Sunday.  Yes, it's a day of binge drinking, eating and loafing.  All fun in moderation!

If you feel like doing something good for you instead, check out my guest post for one of my favorite blogs, Makeup and Beauty Blog.  I wrote about trying cold compressed coconut oil as a hair mask.  Read it here.  Coconut oil is also extremely beneficial as a food, not just as a moisturizer or hair mask.  It's full of good for you fats and has all sorts of health benefits.   Here is a photo that I saved for you guys!   You can use coconut on your pets too!  Rub some on your hands and let them lick it off of you, or use the oil as a conditioner when you give them a bath.

Snowy Sunday - 1000+ Followers! 850+ Facebook Fans! You Guys ROCK!

Happy Sunday y'all!  Is it wrong to say that I really miss the snow?  Moving to California has been such a trip.  I am actually envious when I hear weather reports about the East being slammed with snow.  I guess maybe it makes me homesick.  Marlowe's favorite treat is eating snow.  He loves being dropped in a snowbank above his head and bulldozing his way out by eating the delicious white powder.  Nom nom nom nom!

A couple of amazing milestones this week.  We hit over 1000 followers on the blog, and we are almost at 900 Facebook fans!  I ***never*** thought that we would get here, and especially so fast.  I really want to thank you for making this happen.  Doing this blog gives me a reason to get out of bed in the morning.  I love writing entries and I love interacting via Twitter, comments with you guys and getting to know the blogging community.

On another less happy note, another milestone that happened this week was that I had some photos stolen by another blogger.  Shame.  However, I do not have it nearly as bad as some of my other blogger friends.  Recently, they have had entire blog entries (pictures, writing, etc) all lifted from their sites and regurgitated to a hack blog.   Read more about here.

Here are posts you may have missed this week.

 We said Yes To Cucumbers!

I attempted to talk about perfume and about my journey finding out of the world of perfume.  Writing about fragrance is so much tougher than nail polish or makeup.  There are less visuals to work with, so you really have to be able to express what you want to say with words.

We had a fun Facebook Fans only contest!  Annette F. won a personalized set of fragrance samples from my collection.  Congrats Annette!

Tomorrow is the last day to enter for our New Year's Giveaway.  It's been our biggest ever, but I'm so ready for our next one.  It's going to be legend.  Hint, what's silver, taupe, brown and discontinued.  Hit me on Twitter if you think you know the answer!

Enjoy your what's left of your weekend!  Can't wait to start a new week!

Scenic Sunday - The Week in Review - Next Week Preview

Marlowe in a striking pose.
Happy Sunday everyone!  What a busy week it's been.  We were moving all week.  Building Ikea furniture isn't fun at all, but we now have a much better set up for my stash, for blogging and for making videos.  While moving, I rediscovered some products that I had forgotten about.  Next week, I will be doing some posts about some of these items.  I'm also contemplating a stash post, but to be honest, I'm a little scared to do one of those.  I feel they are just so exposing!  It's like saying to everyone, "Hi, my name is Robin and I'm a makeup and nail polish addict."

 Marlowe trying to build Ikea.

Here are some fun posts from this past week.  I swatched China Glaze's Anchors Away Collection.  Be sure to enter Bright Lights, Big Color Anchors Away giveaway, which ends on Jan. 31.  Here is the link.

I also found my perfect sheer weekend lip color.  Here's my review of Covergirl's NatureLuxe Gloss Balm in Hibiscus.

Also did a couple casual, yet bright, eye looks with my favorite beauty medicine, Sugarpill.  See this post on Bright Colors for a Casual Look.

An EOTD featuring Dollipop from Sugarpill Cosmetics.

Also, you may have seen this on Twitter already, but it was such a cute moment from this week that I have to share.  Marlowe and Noodle, my weird cat, were having a  really cute nap session.

Now let's relax and wait for another week to start.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Marlowe's Halloween Romance + Model's Own Mystic Mauve

The Princess and the Frog

Yes, Halloween is over, but Marlowe is still thinking about his beautiful princess. I loved her costume, and I thought that Model's Own Mystic Mauve would be a pretty compliment to her royal look. Mystic Mauve is a soft lavender mauve foil with lots of shine and bling. It screams, "kiss me frog."

Model's Own Mystic Mauve

Princess approved.

Muahhhhhh! Would you kiss this frog?

Breast Cancer Awareness

I know I am late with this post, but maybe posting about BCA at the end of the month will serve as a reminder that this disease and the fight against it should always be in the forefront of our minds.

I have friends and family (some as young as early 20s!) diagnosed with breast cancer. It's a scary thing to think that so many people in our lives can be devastated by this horrible disease. It's been wonderful and uniting to see so many of my blogging friends sharing their thoughts and stories of friends, family and loved ones.

Here are some ideas for ways you can help with Breast Cancer Awareness. There are a lot of simple and easy (and even free) ways to support BCA!

- Get involved in a walk, 5k, marathon supporting Breast Cancer Research
- Donate your hair to a charity that provides wigs for cancer patients (I chopped off 14" last year and gave it to Beautiful Lengths).
- Post about it on your Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or Blog.
- Make a donation.
- Shop!
- Wear a pink ribbon.

Marlowe is wearing his pink ribbon today!! :) For more information check out http://www.nbcam.org and http://ww5.komen.org .

Marlowe's sign was created for Karen at Makeup and Beauty Blog. She put together a great idea to create signs for Breast Cancer Awareness... and she's even giving away a prize to boot!

Is Bare Escentuals Buxom Buxom Stay-There Eye Shadow more obidient than my dog?!!

Bare Escentuals - Buxom Buxom Stay-There Eyeshadow shown in Mutt. The eyeshadow has a spongey but not wet texture. Marlowe's texture? Nuggety.

Bare Escentuals is making a charitable contribution ($20,000 according to Lucky Magazine) to Canine Companions for Independence-a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs. Marlowe is only generous with his cuteness (not really a philanthropist).

Swatched on skin. Taupe with silver shimmer. Very wearable for everyday! Marlowe is wearable everyday, too.

I wore this with NARS eyeshadow primer and got crease-less color for 10 hours+. Very impressed with the "stay" of Stay-There. The longevity of wear and the pigmentation were both excellent. Marlowe is great with stay. He won't eat his food unless given permission, even if I leave the room... but 10 hours+ stay? I don't think he could do that.

Woof! Marlowe can't catch a frisbee. Eye-paw/Eye-mouth coordination not his forte.

There are 10 "breeds" eye shadows ranging from a metallic Black Lab to an outrageously bright purple Schnauzer. $17 for at Sephora. My only con on this eyeshadow is that is it soooooooooo small (0.12). Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner $19 for 0.16oz, Shiseido Hydro Powder eyeshadow $21 or 0.21oz and MUFE Aqua Cream $22 for 0.21oz. The texture of Stay-There is more spongey and like a wet cream-to-powder finish. The other brands above are more like hard creams. Stay-There reminds me a some Shu Uemura eyeshadows that were LE from a few seasons ago. The Pros are excellent wear, good pigmentation, bright colors and cute dog illustration (lol! maybe not a pro to some).

There are definitely worth a try! Marlowe thinks so too.

BB Couture Eve from Infamous Lovers The Ladies Collection

Eve is a pewter and military green with emerald, kelly and gold glitters. I'm never that great at describing colors, but there is something about Eve (ever see that movie?). From the bottle, I knew that it was going to be a favorite from my order. I love to wear army green shades in my clothing, and it only seems natural that I am so drawn to this color.

Kim at Overall Beauty is such a pleasure to deal with. As a business owner, she has really taken steps to get in touch with her consumers and listen to them. I love ordering from her because you actually feel like a human in putting care into your package and really, really hoping that you are pleased.

Look at how excited we are about our order!! :)
Marlowe says "Which one first?"

Doesn't this say fall?

There is almost a jelliness to this.

You can see emerald, kelly, gold and pewter.

Eve and the entire collection of Infamous Lovers are available at Overall Beauty. I will be posting more from my haul.

Thanks for looking!
