Postcard: London Bricklane

Bricklane, London

Love the color from this mural.

A quick postcard from London.  If you've been following me on Instagram, you know that I've been traveling this week in the UK.  It's been a couple years since I've been in London and even longer since I've been here for an extended amount of time.  I've been having a great time taking in the city and walking streets after my day job.  The weather has been cooperative and spring is in full bloom.

One of my highlights was this past Sunday exploring Spitalfeld Market, Shoreditch and Bricklane.  The street art in London is really amazing, and I have been taking a lot of photos.  More posts to come... but here's a quick postcard for now!

Juice Shop SF

Getting our greens!  Me & Marlowe.
One of my favorite snacks or pick-me-ups is a cold glass of green juice.  In Barcelona, I asked the waiter at this very healthy restaurant if they also had green juice (after noticing their fresh pressed carrot juice).... his response was "Como kiwi?"  No, not like kiwi. :)  Greens like spinach, kale, cucumber most commonly... I usually try to avoid juices with spinach and kale as they are goitrogens, which is why I often make my own juice.  Juice Shop SF makes some seriously tasty and fresh juices.  I love the chubby bottles and the surf/drink juice mantra.  I usually get Liver Green, since it's made with dandelion root and not spinach and kale, which I sadly love but can't have in large quantities.

Do you like juice?

Do you do green?

The Makeup Show LA / Photo Recap

Last weekend, I took an overnight trip to LA to attend The Makeup Show Los Angeles.  I love these trade shows to meet other makeup enthusiasts, attend the seminars, talk to industry experts, discover new lines and also browse through some favorite and to-be favorite makeup lines.   With over 75 brands, there was a lot of ground to cover.  Here are some photo highlights from my trip.

I'll post some photos of my haul and also some pictures from The Kevyn Aucoin exhibition.

Happy Friday!

Ice Cream Socializing / The Ice Cream Bar San Francisco

Are you ready for the weekend?  What's more fun than going for a treat on the weekend.  San Francisco has such a unique way of making the simplest activities unique.  The Ice Cream Bar in the Cole Valley area is an old-timey ice cream parlour and soda fountain where they take a mixology view to soda jerking.  The individually roasted marshmallows to the homemade elixirs and syrups make this shop a little more special than your average 31 flavors.  All ice cream is made in house, and they offer some boozey sodas and shakes if you feel like having something more grown up.

If you are in SF, stop by for a really special treat.

Lucky Instameet at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Recap

At the BCBG runway
Last week, I was extremely fortunate to win a contest with Lucky Magazine for their first ever Lucky Instameet at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center.  It was a whirlwind of an event.  I had found out I had been selected on Monday and then off to NYC by Wednesday.  Thursday morning I found myself at Lincoln Center.  IMG, Instagram and Lucky Magazine put together a great behind the scenes tour to Fashion Week.  The winners got to check out the new exhibition space and all the new runways.  We even got a glimpse backstage at Richard Chai as they were prepping for the runway.

The finale of our event was a meet and greet with Eva Chen, Editor-in-Chief of Lucky Magazine, and some special guests.  If you follow Eva on Instagram and wondered what she was like in real life, her bubbly and  energetic personality don't just come through on her photos.   She was extremely gracious and kind; made sure that everyone had their photo taken with her even though she was running late to another event.  To be so thoughtful of the contest winners was so sweet, you just want to be friends with her.... which is probably why she brought so many great special guests in tow our Instameet!   Two of my favorite fashion bloggers, Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast and Aimee Song of Song of Style were there.  Aimee even brought Dani (my favorite Song sister)!    The model, sometimes blogger, Soojoo Park was also there in between runway shows!  It was a great afternoon of gushing, oohing and ahhing and picture snapping.

How gorgeous is Rumi?  How awesome is that coat?

Thank you Lucky for making a fashion dream come true.  It was truly an amazing event to meet so many cool and influential industry people and bloggers.  I had the best time and hope to return some day to Fashion Week.  Until next time....

New York Fashion Week Recap / Richard Chai Backstage / Desigual / TOME

Getting ready at Richard Chai.
It wouldn't be Fashion Week without some shows?  Going with Lucky Magazine for their Lucky Instameet event was such an awesome experience to get a behind the scenes tour of what goes in Fashion Week.   But how I got to see the shows was through a very generous and wonderful friend I met there who works for IMG.  She was so sweet to take me and a couple other Lucky winners to see some seriously amazing fashion!   Thank you C!

Thanks to an awesome Instagram contest from Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and Lucky Magazine, I'm headed to New York to hang out with the ever so inspiring Eva Chen, Editor in Chief, and Lucky team at Lincoln Center!   To enter you had to "gram" your favorite fashion items and tag @mbfashionweek and @luckymagazine with the #luckyinstameet.  Fifteen finalists were selected to meet the Lucky team this Thursday in New York, and I can't believe I was one of them.  Above is the winning photo.  Of course, Marlowe is included.  He is always in style!

The Spotted Pig / NYC Travel Diary

The Spotted Pig.
One of my favorite restaurants in New York City is a little gastropub called The Spotted Pig located in the West Village.  It's very English in decor.  Crowded and even more crowded with any and every kind of pig decor imaginable.  It's overwhelmingly charming and warm.  The staff is welcoming, and it feels completely homey.  I love to go for brunch early on a Sunday and get their biscuit and scrambled egg.  Hands down the most delicious biscuit I have ever had.

Visiting Wonderland / Veronica Lake Waves / Classic Hairstyle, Not So Classic Color

The finished look
I'll be heading to NYC soon... but before I do I wanted to get photos up from my last trip.  I was recently there in November for a friend's wedding.  I wanted to have a polished look for the black tie event, so I went to one of my favorite beauty studio's in New York, Wonderland Beauty Parlour.  Jeb did my hair in a classic Veronica Lake side sweep.  With my bright purple color, it was a real contrast!

To achieve this look, Jeb barrel curled my hair with a 1.25" curling iron and pinned it to cool.  Each lock was sprayed with Oribe Soft Lacquer spray (my new secret weapon for hot tool looks!).  Then it was brushed out.  Voila!

Sure It's Shearling / My Favorite "Cold" Weather Jacket

It almost never gets cold enough to wear this.
Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to be in California.  Moving out here from the east coast, I still sometimes am baffled by the weather here (or the lack of variation in weather... more precisely).  For just a couple short months, it actually gets cold enough for me to pull out this cozy shearling jacket.  I purchased this a couple seasons back on super clearance knowing full well that I would just get a few weeks of wear out of this beauty.

I think it's ageless.  Seasonless not so much.  But I will definitely be wearing it during those few short weeks for years to come.

What's your favorite warm weather jacket?

Pendleton x NikeID / Air Force 1 High / How do I work those straps?

My NikeID x Pendleton creations.  A perfect warm wooly winter combo.

Nike recently launched a collaboration with Pendleton to create custom sneakers (in models Air Force, Janoski, Blazer and Roshe Run).  There are 4 cool classically Pendleton prints to play with and some very supple suede to offset those iconic patterns.  As soon as I noticed them on the site, I quickly made myself a pair.  I wasn't the only one.  Now only the Blazer and Janoski lines are available for ID.  If you can, try to make a pair!  It's fun to create your NikeID model and see it come to life.  I'm especially thrilled with the way these turned out.  What do you think of them?  Try it out here.

More on Pendleton here.  The company was founded in 1863 but their tribal, Native vibe is very of the moment.  They have also done some cool collaborations with one of my favorite San Francisco street brands: Benny Gold.

I love how the laces are slightly off white.

I haven't figured out how to wear the straps without cutting off circulation.  All for fashion I guess!
How cute is this tag?

Isabel Marant Pour H&M - The Stalk, The Wait, The Hunt, The Score

Arms too full.  Had to kick my pile.

It was 3:50am.  My text to M said, "I'm in full makeup. See you soon."  I couldn't sleep that night.  It was the eve of 11/14.  A day I've had marked in my calendar with building anticipation for months.  No sleep 'til Marant.

Arriving at the H&M on Powell Street in San Francisco around 4:15am.  M and I were #'s 21 and 22 in line.  Yes!  Prepped with folding chairs, warm jackets and blankets (which we surprisingly didn't need).  We waited and waited until the sun came up.  Then there were wristbands!  We would be in the first group in line!  8:05am-8:20am.  15 minutes to grab, score and move on.

There was even less time to try on.  You just had to buy and go.  My arms were failing me.  I grabbed so much I had to kick a pile of shoes to a corner.  It was shopping overload but the H&M staff were well prepared.  I was impressed how well things were organized.

In a flurry of 20 minutes, I was out of the door with most of my wishlist and some additions.  I did miss out the black lace dress and skipped the fringe boots.  One my favorite pieces was a dark grey sweatshirt, randomly.  It's cut really well and feels extremely soft.

Did you manage to get to Marant?  What did you get?  Do you still want more like me?

This is what 4:23am looks like.

Marant windows in the morning.

Missed out on the this awesome sweatshirt and skirt.

Geared up.  Marants in line for Marant.

Wristband ready.

Hands out for wristbands!

Go this way...
Oh la la!

So much stuff.  Yet I feel that I left out.

My score!

Yipee!!  I got it!
Love this shopping bag.

Saturday Sweats / Outfits

Leather Jacket: H&M
Sweater: H&M
Sweatpants: Zara
Sneakers: Nike X Liberty of London
Sunglasses: Elizabeth & James

Weekends are for leisure wear.  What's more relaxed than sweatpants?  They key is not to make them seem too lazy.  Put effort some so you don't look like you just rolled out of bed (though you may have).  I tried a biked jacket to give it more edge, and I also tried to put a little more effort than usual into my hair.

What do you wear on the weekends?
