Bobbi Brown Modern Classic Lip and Eye Palette - Review and Swatches

There is something classically elegant about Bobbi Brown's line.  From the universal colors to the sleek but timeless design, I always look forward to Bobbi's holiday offerings.

With Christmas already passed, it seems a little late to be reviewing Bobbi Brown's Modern Classic Lip and Eye Palette.  But I think that this palette has more going for it than holiday seasonality.  It's a limited edition palette of 10 eyeshadows and 4 glitter lip glosses.  The eyeshadows come in a variety of matte, shimmer and metallics.  The packaging is in that classic Bobbi Brown fashion, packaged in gold and black.

Gorgeous presentation isn't the only expectation that I have with BB products.  The eyeshadows have a great reputation, and they always manage to find their way into staples in my rotation.  So many of Bobbi Brown's past palettes have been my go-to makeup kits for travel, work and just something I like to keep in my purse.

I have to commend Bobbi Brown for not just doing all neutral beiges and taupes in this palette.  I am happy to see rose, blue, soft violet all in the mix.  These colors are nice in texture and are good quality.  They are subtle enough for work, but with some black eyeliner or a Bobbi Brown gel liner you could definitely work a seriously glamorous look with these shades.

Personally, I am always resistant of lip/eye palette combos.  I hate it when the powder from the eyeshadow gets stuck in the stickiness of the glosses.  I would like to thank the GENIUS at Bobbi Brown that actually had the foresight to create this handy divider to keep my lips and eyes separate!  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

To Review:
Pro: Quality eyeshadow and lip products all in one handy kit.  Work appropriate, but you can easily create some festive night looks with it.  Smart design separating lips and eyes.
Con: Pricey.  Limited Edition.

Your Nails Are Like Buttah - Butter London All Hail The Queen

Butter London - All Hail The Queen

Butter!  I can't think of the combination of butter + nails without bringing to mind one of my favorite Mike Meyers SNL characters Linda Richman, host of Coffee Talk.  Sigh, they just don't make them like that anymore.

Recently, I did a little Butter London haulage of some colors I've been dying to try.  The first I've swatched is All Hail The Queen, a neutral beige taupe with silver holographic shimmer.  This falls into the very difficult and elite category of  interesting yet work appropriate.  I was impressed by the smooth (yes, almost butter-y) application of the polish.  Two coats and I had full coverage.

Butter London nail polishes are $14 each, available at beauty.com and on Butter London's website

My recent Butter haul, more swatches to come!

I'm a little faklempt... talk amongst yourselves.

Butter London is neither a spread nor a city... discuss.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Wet Clay - Possibly The World's Most Work Appropriate Color?

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Wet Clay

I had a meeting and wanted to wear something that was rather neutral.  But being a nail junkie, it's hard to get psyched about semi-sheer "your-nail-but-better" shades (e.g. Essie Mademoiselle).   Snoozer!

While going through my neutral shades, I came across Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Wet Clay.  I purchased this earlier this fall (see display below), but it remained untried.  This was one of the colors featured in Tracy Reese's fall runway show, but I have been slow to get to all these shades (more reviews to come).  Wet Clay is a buttery hybrid of gray, nude, mauve and pink.  Two coats and I had a sophisticated neutral mani perfect for the office, business meeting and any situation where you don't want crazy attention on your nails.

Being in a pinch, I actually ended up keeping this mani for my trip to New York.  I was impressed that I basically only suffered minimal tippage after 6 days of wear.  You go Sally Hansen!  You've definitely impressed me once again.
